Frequently Asked Questions

1. Download the REM Launcher and run the installer.
2. Point the launcher at your existing Freelancer installation folder.
3. Let the launcher download and apply the mod files (automatic).
4. Log in with your Discord account via the launcher.
5. Click Play – the REM server will appear in the Multiplayer server list.

You need a working Freelancer (2003) installation. The original game has not been officially re-released (we are campaigning for it on the GOG Dreamlist). Original CDs, disc images and community copies are compatible. REM does not include the base game files.

Click Browse in the launcher and navigate manually to the folder containing Freelancer.exe. This is typically C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Freelancer\EXE\. Make sure the game is fully installed and not just partially extracted.

The launcher configures this automatically, but if you are connecting manually:

1. Open Freelancer\EXE\freelancer.ini in a text editor.
2. Under [ListServer], set hostname = gun.rem-freelancer.moe.
3. Save and restart Freelancer.

These bases are in high-risk border systems – bring class 8+ shields.

It depends on your play style. As a general guide:

• Fastest (dogfighting): Sabre, Titan or Eagle – high agility, class 9/10 weapons
• Best tankiness: Titan or Hammerhead – high hull and shield capacity
• Best all-rounder: Sabre – excellent balance of speed, firepower and shield
• Budget option: Crusader – good early/mid-game fighter, widely available

For trading, the Dromedary and Bustard freighters offer the best cargo capacity for their class. The Container Transport is the largest available vessel for high-volume commodity runs. Choose based on the trade route – smaller ships navigate jump holes that large transports cannot use.

Nomad weapons drop from Nomad NPCs in the deep border systems (Omicron Minor, Omicron Alpha, etc.) and can sometimes be found at pirate bases in the outer edge systems. They are among the best weapons in the game and are not sold at any regular equipment dealer. With REM's crafting system, some Nomad weapon components can also be crafted from rare resources gathered through mining.

Freeport 7 was destroyed during the events of the Freelancer campaign and no longer exists as a functional station. The wreck can be found in the Tau-31 system. The other Freeports (1–9, 11) are all intact and accessible.

REM's crafting system lets you create weapons, equipment and depot items from raw materials gathered through mining or bought from certain bases. You need a blueprint to craft an item – blueprints are unlocked through missions, purchased from certain stations, or discovered in hidden locations. See the Crafting Guide for full details.

Fly to an asteroid field and target a minable asteroid (highlighted by the REM UI). Use the /rem mine command or the mining beam from your equipment loadout to extract resources. Resources go into your cargo hold and can be used for crafting or sold at refineries. See the Mining Guide for full details.

Your reputation with factions increases naturally through missions and combat. Once you reach a sufficient reputation level, faction NPCs will offer you membership or special missions. Some REM factions also have Discord roles – ask on the Discord server.

Type /stuck in chat. This teleports your ship a short distance upward, usually freeing it from collision geometry. If that doesn't work, try undocking and re-docking at the nearest base, or contact staff via Discord.
