Other Equipment

Beyond weapons, missiles and shields, your ship can be equipped with several utility items that improve mobility, survivability and combat effectiveness. This page covers thrusters, countermeasures, scanners, tractor beams, mines and REM-exclusive equipment slots.

Thrusters

Thrusters provide a temporary speed boost when activated, allowing rapid repositioning in combat or escaping hostile encounters. They consume thrust energy and automatically recharge over time when not in use. Every ship can equip one thruster in its dedicated thruster slot.

Heavy Thruster 5,000 cr Higher thrust power suited for heavier ships and freighters.
Optimised Thruster 6,000 cr Best performance among standard purchasable thrusters. Found at high-security stations.
Order Thruster 100 cr Found only at Order and Nomad-affiliated bases deep in the Edge Worlds. Extremely low purchase price but very limited availability.

Countermeasure Launchers

Countermeasures (CMs) are deployed flares that distract incoming homing missiles, causing them to break lock and detonate harmlessly. They are consumed on use, so you must carry countermeasure flare ammunition in your cargo hold as well as the launcher itself. Essential in PvP and against missile-heavy NPC groups.

Always carry countermeasures when venturing into dangerous systems. A single well-timed CM can save your ship from a torpedo.

Scanners

Scanners determine how far your ship can detect other objects and how much information is displayed about targeted ships and cargo. Each ship has one scanner slot.

Name Notes
Basic Scanner Default scanner fitted to all new ships. Detects ships and objects within a standard range.
Advanced Scanner Increased scan range. Shows more detail on targeted objects, including cargo hold contents of nearby ships.
Combat Scanner Military-grade extended range scanner. Also reveals the weapon loadout of targeted ships – valuable for threat assessment in PvP.

Tractor Beams

Tractor beams automatically pull floating cargo, loot drops and salvage into your cargo hold. They are essential for looting wrecks and collecting NPC drops efficiently during combat.

Advanced Tractor Beam Greater range and significantly faster pull speed. Recommended for dedicated loot and salvage runs.

Mines

Mines are dropped behind your ship and detonate on proximity when an enemy enters their trigger radius. They are useful for deterring pursuit or creating defensive chokepoints near jump holes and trade lanes. Each mine type requires its own mine launcher.

REM-Specific Equipment

The following items are exclusive to the REM server and are not found in the base Freelancer game. They support the expanded economy systems added by the mod.
